We were lenient in this evaluation, since the two UMN courses were taken in the pandemic period.
2024-11-21 23:48:57 - Xu-Yan Chen <xc4>
Our recommendation is: The combined bundle of three courses, MATH 1473 UMTYMP Calculus IIA (Fall 2020, Univ of Minnesota, 2 semester credit hours), MATH 2471 UMTYMP Calculus IIB (Spring 2021, Univ of Minnesota, 2 semester credit hours), COMP SCI 532 Matrix Methods in Machine Learning (Spring 2024, UW-Madison, 3 semester credits hours), transfers as GT MATH 1554 (4 GT credits) +GT MATH 2XXX (2 GT credits) +GT MATH 4XXX (2 GT credits). Not policy.

From UMN: MATH 1473 (UMTYMP Calculus IIA) is worth 2 semester credit hours; MATH 2471 (UMTYMP Calculus IIB) is worth 2 semester credit hours; From UW-Madison: COMP SCI 532 (Mtrx Mthds in Machine Learning) is worth 3 semester credits hours;

Please upload/resubmit and return to R1 a response to this inquiry from the department - "How many credit hours is each of these UMN and UW-Madison courses worth? On what basis? Semester basis? Quarter basis? Please specify. "

Sorry for the confusion, it would actually be 2 courses from UMN and 1 course from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. From UMN: MATH 1473 (UMTYMP Calculus IIA) MATH 2471 (UMTYMP Calculus IIB) From UW-Madison COMP SCI 532 (Mtrx Mthds in Machine Learning) I propose that combined, these should equal Math 1554 credit at Georgia Tech and perhaps also some elective math credits.

I understand that you are requesting an evaluation of a bundle of several UMN courses combined together. Please list all the concerned courses as Course 1, Course 2, etc., and provide the course number, course title, and the number of credit hours for each course. Then please let us know what GT course credits you are suggesting to be equivalent to the UMN course bundle.

I have attached the additional documents mentioned in the email as supplemental files.

I was told to resubmit an evaluation after emailing the Math Department with the below email. > Dear GT Math Department, > > I was directed to email the GT Math Department after contacting the GT > Registrar's office regarding transfer credit. > > Some while ago, I submitted a course evaluation hoping to get credit > for Math 1554 at GT. However, it was denied. I would like to appeal > against this decision and present a further addition that can > hopefully supplement what was missing in the first place. Find below, > the course syllabus and course document outlining the grading scheme > used for BOTH University of Minnesota's UMTYMP Calculus IIA and UMTYMP > Calculus IIB, and the course topics. > > Firstly, I have a friend and peer who took the exact same course > during the same time as me He received credit, yet I did not. I find > this anomaly strange. The only difference is that he was a first year > admit at GT, while I am a transfer student at GT. We are both students > of the class of 2027. > > Secondly, I understand that GT teaches linear algebra a little > differently, and generally some extra topics are included such as SVD. > To make up in the differences, I would also like to use credit from > another course I have taken that has previously been evaluated, and > appears on the transfer equivalency table, and given credit as Math > 4XXX. I was hoping to combine this with the aforementioned course to > get Math 1554. This course, CS 532, which I have attached a syllabus > of below, covers the missing topics that are taught in GT Linear > Algebra that might not be taught in other traditional linear algebra > classes including but not limited to topics such as Singular Value > Decomposition (SVD) and Google PageRank. > > Thank you for your time and consideration. > > Sincerely, > Aiden Chiang
