Dear College of Engineering Team, I am currently enrolled in COE 2001 this semester. After reviewing and attending the course, I noticed significant overlap with the content I already covered in the first part of AE 203 at my previous institution. I discussed this situation with my professor, who suggested that I write to the College of Engineering to request permission to skip COE 2001 and enroll directly in COE 3001. Could you please let me know the next steps or provide any guidance regarding this process? I would be happy to supply additional information or documentation about my prior coursework if needed. I look forward to your response. Best regards, Gavin

This course does not fully cover all aspects of our AE 2220, but enough to get you through to the next sequenced courses. Credit for this course cannot be split between two courses since this course is only worth 3 credits; student must take COE 2001, as Purdue West Lafayette has ME 270 that transfers in as our COE 2001, which student does not have. Strongly suggested to take AE 2221 for more thorough 3D Dynamics as compared to the general version acquired through this transfer course.

I am requesting a re-evaluation of AAE 203, which I have been advised to do by the Office of the Registrar. Below is a detailed comparison of AAE 203 and AE 2220: AAE 203 as Equivalent to AE 2220: Kinematics of Points and Particles Both courses cover: Position, Velocity, and Acceleration: Analysis in Cartesian, cylindrical, tangential/normal, and spherical coordinate systems (AAE 203: Kinematics of points; AE 2220: Kinematics of material points). Reference Frames: Vector derivatives, angular velocity, and expansions for velocity and acceleration (AAE 203: Kinematics of reference frames; AE 2220: Reference frames and vector derivatives). Rectilinear and Planar Motion: Foundational principles of particle motion, emphasizing problem-solving. Rigid Body Dynamics in Plane Motion Both courses introduce: Angular Velocity and Acceleration: Basics and applications to rigid body motions (AAE 203: Kinematics of reference frames; AE 2220: Rigid body motion in plane and 3D). Impulse-Momentum and Work-Energy Principles: Coverage in particle dynamics and kinetic expansions (AAE 203: Particle dynamics; AE 2220: Kinetics of rigid bodies). Statics and Distributed Forces AAE 203 includes statics, which directly supports AE 2220 and its prerequisites: Force Systems and Equilibrium: Comprehensive instruction on distributed forces, static equilibrium, and moments/couples (AAE 203: Statics of bodies; COE 2001: Statics). While AE 2220 assumes prior knowledge of statics (COE 2001), AAE 203 integrates this foundational content, making it highly relevant. I have a course textbook, Purdue’s internal textbook for Aeromechanics, which contains specific details about the material covered in AAE 203. I am happy to provide this if it would assist in the re-evaluation process. I believe AAE 203 not only aligns with AE 2220 but also covers much of the content in COE 2001. Therefore, I respectfully request consideration for both AE 2220 credit and a COE 2001 credit. If this is not possible, I ask for AE 2220 credit, along with a COE 2001 exemption. If there are any minor disparities between AAE 203 and AE 2220, I am fully committed to bridging those gaps through self-study to ensure my preparedness for future coursework. Thank you for considering my request.
