If the student is confident in the mastery of the course material, they may want to consider the option of testing out GT MATH 2550 or GT MATH 2551 by taking an Advanced Standing Exam https://math.gatech.edu/undergraduate/advanced-standing-exams

It is unclear from the syllabus how quizzes and exams are administered. Even assuming that quizzes and exams are proctored, only 60% of the course grade is based on proctored assessments, and the other 40% comes from class participation and computer labs. This is far less rigorous than GT calculus courses.

I’m planning to take MATH 2551 and MATH 3235 during the winter semester at Elmira College. I fully realize that it is during our spring semester here at GT but this is in the best interest of my schedule and personal academic success due to the following reasons: I’m double majoring in mathematics and economics now and have not switched my major into math until later in my sophomore year, thus my schedule is quite packed with a decent number of math courses and on top of that, these two classes are the pre-requisite of many of my other math courses. I’m planning to go to law school in the future and therefore I have to take lsat next year, I’m also planning to do internships and graduate in four and a half years (This is the best range of time for me due to internships and scholarship considerations); therefore, given that I’ll have a relatively lighter schedule next semester (spring 2025) to prepare for LSAT and a free winter, it is to my best interest to take these two prerequisite classes during the winter term of Elmira college from January 6th to January 31. While I’m fully aware of our institution’s policy of not taking courses outside of school during our regular term, I beg for an opportunity and an excuse for this coincidental bit of overlap in time for the best possible academic arrangement and success in the future. Additionally, I realized that 3235 requires 2551 as a pre-requisite, however, again for the best interest of time, given that I took 2552 this past semester and have gotten a decent grade, took AP statistics in high school, took the stats for economists course and econometrics at GT, I believe that I have the ability to take 3235 with 2551 and therefore asking for a permit to do this. Thank you so much for your kind consideration!
